Photographing Budapest’s Architecture
I went to Budapest expecting the usual European greatest hits—old bridges, grand old palaces, and plenty of history baked into every stone. And sure, you get all of that. But what actually caught me off guard was how the city casually mashes its heavy imperial past with weird, sharp, modern design.
One minute you're standing under the massive, dizzying neo-Gothic arches of the Parliament building, feeling properly tiny, and the next you're walking through City Park staring down the wildly sweeping, grass-roofed waves of the Museum of Ethnography designed by NAP Architects, or getting sucked under the perforated, floating canopy of Sou Fujimoto's House of Music Hungary.
It's messy, you can’t predict what’s around the corner, and that’s exactly what makes walking around this place so damn interesting.
